The Art of Upcycling with Kirsten at Greenehill School

Get hand-on experience with a wide variety of materials and techniques as we explore the possibilities of all things recycled. Kids will have the opportunity to focus on a new project each week, with challenges presented in digestible chunks. Each session will find us using familiar materials in unfamiliar ways, in a lesson that builds skills and opens fresh paths to get creative.

The Art of Upcycling for kids Ages 4 to 6

Join the artist afterschool to create artworks from recycled materials. Projects will include hanging paper spheres, weavings with “plarn” (yarn made from plastic bags),  stacked button baubles, and more! All supplies are provided. Kids will leave each week with a completed project, or the materials necessary to finish their creation at home. This is a very “hands on” way of learning about the physical world and will help participants build fine motor strength and coordination, as well as opening up new possibilities for creating from the stuff at hand.

Projects will include 3-dimensional mandalas from paper towel tubes, latch-hook sculptures using “plarn” (yarn made from plastic bags), mini trees made from rolled paper beads, and centerpieces made from lids and caps! All supplies are provided. Kids will leave each week with a completed project, or the materials necessary to finish their creation at home. This is a very “hands on” way of learning about the physical world and will help participants further their understanding of how to handle materials, as well as opening up new possibilities for creating from the stuff at hand.
